MES Indian School marked the 74th Independence Day of India with traditional gaiety and patriotic fervour at the conference hall of the school on Saturday.
Chief Guest K Abdul Karim, president officiating, MES Governing Board, unfurled the Indian national flag, which was followed by the national anthem. In his keynote address, Karim urged the students to rededicate themselves for the unity and prosperity of the motherland, dispelling the ethnic and regional differences, and called for fighting against social evils like poverty, corruption and illiteracy.
Guest of Honour P K Mohamed, general secretary, MES Governing Board, in his address remarked that as students are the pillars and assets of the promising world of tomorrow, they should utilise their potential in the right manner to bring a positive change in the world.
Principal Hameeda Kadar exhorted the younger generation to uphold the ideals taught and lived by the freedom fighters and persevere to excel in carving a niche for the motherland in the international arena.
The school choir rendered a special patriotic song in virtual mode depicting the glory of the ‘national movement’. A video presentation entitled ‘A Tribute to the Freedom Fighters’ which comprised the landmark events of the freedom struggle and students’ role-play of eminent freedom fighters delivering patriotic messages kindled the patriotic fervour.
Sameer Pande, a teacher at the Department of Hindi, donned as Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, gave a surprise entry and delivered the Independence Day message much to the jubilation of everyone.
Among those present on the occasion were Director MC Muhammed as well as other invitees and school officials.
Taniska Dandriyal and Nandini Rajagopal compered the programme. Head Boy Toby James welcomed the gathering. The programme came to an end with a vote of thanks proposed by Aushka Sumesh, cultural secretary, Girls’ Section. Students presented the day’s programme in the virtual mode uniquely for the first time.
