Tribune News NetworkDohaQatar is promoting its vision of sustainability at the global horticultural exhibition ‘Floriade Expo 2022’ in Almere, the Netherlands, while also inviting visitors to experience it fully at Expo 2023 Doha.Ever since the launch of the Floriade Expo 2022, Qatar has been capitalising on its pavilion to promote Expo 2023 Doha, attracting visitors and offering diverse activities to put forward Qatar’s ambitious vision of a greener and more sustainable environment.Qatar National Day celebrations were held in the pavilion on September 2 and 3. As Floriade 2022 closes on October 9, Qatar decided to bring its National Day festivities to the pavilion early, allowing visitors to acquaint themselves with the country’s rich culture. As part of the celebration, Qatar’s pavilion offered visitors of all ages interactive activities focused on the environment, agriculture and sustainability, reflecting Qatar’s ‘Green Desert’ approach to agriculture and horticulture to address key environmental concerns. High-level government officials and representatives have joined the early Qatar National Day celebrations, includingHE Abdulla bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality, and HE Nasser bin Ibrahim Al Langawi, Ambassador of Qatar to the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The Secretary-General of Expo 2023 Doha Mohammed Ali Alkhoori also attended the event and seized the occasion to express his gratitude to the Netherlands for hosting Floriade 2022, emphasising the strong relationship between both countries: "Qatar and the Netherlands have significant trade relations, but the horticultural field is also an important field of cooperation. We have a shared vision and interest in promoting and developing the horticultural sector, and we will be honoured to host the Netherlands in Doha during Expo 2023. We are sure that Expo 2023 Doha will greatly benefit from the Netherlands’ expertise in horticulture, agriculture, environmental action, and sustainability,” he said.As part of its endeavour to promote Expo 2023 Doha and familiarise the audiences with its goals and vision, Qatar has conducted a series of events organized by the Expo 2023 Doha team under the supervision and patronage of Haifa Alotaibi, Events and Communications manager. While these events catered to visitors of all ages, there was a great focus on children’s activities with the view that today’s youth will soon become the drivers of sustainable transformation and pave the way for a greener future. In this spirit, Expo 2023 Doha will also be investing in youth initiatives, offering them opportunities to learn more about environmental challenges and sustainable solutions, as well as the role of agriculture and horticulture in building a greener world. Expo 2023 Doha will be held under the slogan "Green Desert, Better Environment”, with the aim to highlight the importance of horticulture through four sub-themes: modern agriculture, technology and innovation, environmental awareness and sustainability.As part of the ongoing preparations for Expo 2023 Doha and Qatar’s commitment to contribute to the global sustainability agenda, Mohammed Ali Alkhoori and other government representatives have made several visits to Floriade Expo 2022 to benefit from the experience of other participants and learn about latest technologies to bring this expertise to Expo 2023 Doha.In a recent statement, Ali Alkhoori stressed the importance of this global event and invited all countries to take part. "As the first country in the Middle East and North Africa region to host a Horticulture Expo, we are honoured to invite the world to come together in Doha as we seek new ways to collaborate and build a better and greener tomorrow,” he said.Qatar’s pavilion at Floriade 2022, spearheaded by the Ministry of Municipality under the slogan "Desert Nest”, has been highly successful, welcoming a total of 135,000 visitors since its opening on April 14.
