Taipei Despite pressure from China, Lithuania has begun operations in a physical office to represent its business interests in Taiwan.Taiwan’s Foreign Ministry also confirmed on Tuesday that Paulius Lukauskas has taken up his post as Lithuania’s representative to Taipei.The move follows the establishment of a Taiwanese liaison office in the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius.In response, China downgraded its diplomatic relations with the EU member and imposed economic sanctions.Taiwan has had an independent government since 1949, but China considers the democratic island part of its territory and opposes any form of official contacts between Taiwan and others, as shown by the outrage caused by recent visits by US and European lawmakers.
