THE Embassy of Nepal in Qatar celebrated Nepal’s National Day and Constitution Day at a brief ceremony held on embassy premises with all the preventive and precautionary measures for COVID-19 in place.
The ceremony was attended by the embassy staff, their families and representatives of Nepalese community organisations.
The Ambassador of Nepal to Qatar HE Dr Narad Nath Bhardwaj inaugurated the event by lighting the traditional lamp. He then hoisted the flag of Nepal, which was followed by presentation of the national anthem.
The ambassador also delivered the National Day message, which was followed by the cake-cutting ceremony. In the message, the ambassador summed up the National Day messages of Nepal’s President Mrs Bidya Devi Bhandari and Prime Minister K P Sharma Oli.
Dr Bhardwaj highlighted the importance of the National Day and Constitution Day for Nepalese living in different parts of the world. He also recalled the historic promulgation of the Constitution of Nepal on September 20, 2015, by the Constituent Assembly.
According to him, the Constitution has ensured democracy, inclusion, development and social justice in the country. “As envisioned by the Constitution, the government of Nepal has pursued the path of peace, progress and prosperity. The government is committed to realising its objective of ‘Prosperous Nepal, Happy Nepali’ by focusing on economic growth.”
Dr Bharadwaj then touched upon Nepal’s cordial ties with Qatar since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1977. He appreciated the way Qatar has continued to make phenomenal progress in recent years despite various obstacles.
He also expressed satisfaction over the presence of a large number of Nepalese workers in Qatar and hailed the series of labour reforms being introduced by Qatar Government for welfare of workers, including the latest decisions on minimum wages and non-requirement of No Objection Certificates (NOCs) for changing jobs.
Dr Bharadwaj also praised Qatar’s effective and successful management of the COVID-19 pandemic. While appreciating Qatar’s support for Nepal and Nepalese in view of the pandemic, he urged the Nepalese community in Qatar to strictly comply with the preventive and precautionary measures.
The ambassador also expressed the willingness of Nepal to continue to explore further avenues of cooperation and collaboration with Qatar for mutual benefit.
