MANILA: The Philippines’ death toll from the coronavirus outbreak topped 5,000, while the country’s caseload rose to more than 294,000, the government said on Wednesday.
The Department of Health reported 44 additional deaths, bringing the total number of fatalities from COVID-19 to 5,091.
Of the additional deaths, nearly 50 per cent occurred in May to August, but were only reported now, it added.
More than half were from the capital region of Metro Manila, where most of the infections were being recorded. (DPA)
