Qatar, who defeated Bhutan 6-0 to move to the top of Group B of the AFC U20 Asian Cup Uzbekistan 2023 Qualifiers on Wednesday, are in a good position after two wins but still have to play Bangladesh (Friday) and group hosts Bahrain (Sunday) to seal top spot and a place in the finals.

Qatar need four points from their remaining matches but will find Bangladesh, who played to a 0-0 draw with Bahrain before edging Bhutan 2-1, tougher opposition. Bahrain got their campaign back on track by defeating Nepal 6-0 on Wednesday but have to defeat Bhutan on Friday to stay in the race.

Rashid Abdulaziz Al Abdulla opened the scoring in the 26th minute and by the time the referee blew the whistle for half time, Qatar – who defeated Nepal 3-1 in their opening match – were 4-0 up with Alhashmi Mohialdin (34th), Jassem Mohammed Alsharshani (39th) and Mobark Shanan Hamza (45+4) getting their names on the scoresheet.

Defender Ahmed Alrawi took charge of the scoring duties in the second half, netting in the 61st and 78th minutes as Qatar took a huge step towards qualifying for the finals.
