The Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) and all Red Crescent Societies/Authorities in the Gulf countries celebrated the GCC Red Crescent Day as an embodiment of the spirit of integration and unity among them, under the auspices of the Secretariat-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council ( GCC).
The QRCS celebration of this day is a further demonstration of its prestigious position as a regionally and internationally active humanitarian organisation with an unrivaled track record in various areas of relief and development work, both locally and globally. It reflects the QRCS’ openness to cooperation with other components of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement towards its ultimate humanitarian goal of saving lives and preserving dignity.
The ceremony recognised the efforts and sacrifices made by QRCS volunteers to serve their communities and contribute to the overall development of the community. During the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, volunteers played a remarkably role in protecting people in Qatar with utmost dedication.
At the ceremony attended by many QRCS senior officials, staff and volunteers, Ali bin Hassan Al-Hammadi, Secretary-General, said the day was a celebration of the spirit of unity and inter-connectedness between GCC volunteers. "This is the product of years of hard work and planning by the GCC Red Crescent Top Officials Committee and its volunteer and media subcommittees,” he said.
"I would like to take this opportunity to reaffirm QRCS’ commitment to its humanitarian mission both in the GCC region and beyond,” said Al-Hammadi. "We hope that this celebration will lead to a stronger solidarity between the Red Crescent Societies and Authorities of the GCC to serve humanity everywhere, inspired by a sense of benevolence, compassion and
integrity.”
