Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), represented by Engineer Abdulaziz Al Hammadi, director of District Cooling Services Department, and engineers of District Cooling Services Department, visited the Education City Stadium to follow up the workflow of the District Cooling Station, which has a cooling capacity of up to 40,000 RT.
The District Cooling Station is equipped with the latest high-performance energy-efficienct devices, intelligent control, and monitoring systems that are linked to a control system with the rest of the energy centers in Education City, which gives them greater flexibility in operation and control.
The district cooling system supplies chilled water to a number of distributed power transmission centers inside the stadium, which in turn distributes it to a number of air treatment units deployed in the stadium, to ensure the required temperature for the fans’ stands, the stadium’s floor and the facilities of the stadium.
The district cooling system used in the stadium cooling is an innovative and environmentally friendly technology and one of the most efficient and energy-saving systems, as it saves about 40 percent of electricity by saving electricity generation and distribution capabilities, thus saving natural gas consumption.
Reducing natural gas consumption leads to a 40 percent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional cooling solutions, as well as saving 98 of drinking water through the use of treated water.
The Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation also urges all providers
and developers of district cooling services to switch to using treated water instead of drinking water in cooling
operations in order to enhance water security for
Qatar.
By organising and monitoring district cooling services, the corporation aims to provide electricity and drinkable water, sustain water resources and preserve the environment, as well as keep pace with the use of all new technologies in district cooling services in line with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.
