The Municipality of Al-Sheehaniya, a member of the UNESCO Global Network of Learning Cities, in cooperation with Qatar Charity, has inaugurated the Al-Sheehaniya Park watering model for bird care and conservation in the country. It was designed in the form of a pigeon house, according to the traditional architectural identity of
Qatar.
The director of the Al-Sheehaniya Municipality, Jaber Hassan Al Jaber, said that the inauguration of the watering model for birds in the park is part of the cooperation between the Municipality and Qatar Charity to contribute to the conservation of birds, the protection of the Qatari environment and the promotion of a culture of sustainability.
He thanked Qatar Charity for the cooperation with the Al Sheehaniya Municipality in this project, as well as the Ministry of the Municipality and the Environment for the cooperation in other community service projects.
The Director of the Local Development Department of Qatar Charity, Jassim Muhammad Al-Emadi, said that Qatar Charity is committed to working with government and private bodies to serve the local community and to promoting positive values, including environmental values.
He expressed his hope that, in coordination with the Ministry of the Municipality and Environment, the people would support the bird waterer project to install other waterers in public parks or in places where birds gather.
He also thanked the Al Sheehaniya Municipality for its cooperation in promoting the idea of the project and translating it into practice.
It is worth noting that Qatar Charity had previously educated the people on the ‘Soqya’ project to keep up the tradition of giving water to birds, through implementing interactive workshops for children and youth.
Qatar Charity has already cooperated with the Ministry of Education and Higher Education, Qatar University and Qatar Foundation universities in holding recycling workshops for designing small models for bird waterers at many schools. It has also collaborated with the Parks Department of the Ministry of Municipality and Environment to distribute these models in the parks of Doha.
