The Qatar national football team is all warmed up for a friendly but crucial preparatory clash with Costa Rica at the BSFZ Arena Admiral Stadium in Vienna on Friday at 8pm Doha Time.
The Asian champions Qatar arrived in Austria well in advance a few days ago to acclimatize and have been training in cold weather.
Speaking of the team’s preparations, Qatar midfielder Ahmed Moein said, Every player is striving to put up their in these friendlies and to prepare for the forthcoming challenges (FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 and AFC Asian Cup 2023 qualifiers).
“Playing such matches will be a huge benefit to us as we prepare for events like 2021 Copa America and Gold Cup,” he added.
“We are ready to play the first match (against Costa Rica). We hope to present a good level that shows us as champions of Asia and everyone is excited about such important matches,” he said.
Another team member, Moaied Hassan, said, “The atmosphere within the squad is great. Everyone is enthusiastic. Playing with different sides will be of great help to us as we build momentum going into our events next year.”
The training grounds where Qatar have been is training are located close to the Hilton Vienna hotel where the squad is camped, the team’s media chief Ali Salat said, adding, “The weather is cold but the players are adjusting well.”
“We also had the COVID-19 swab tests done. It is mandatory that we get it done 48 hours prior to our match,” he informed.
“Last month we played against Ghana and now we are set for Costa Rica and South Korea (on November 17). These are three different schools of football for us. We look forward to our matches in Austria,” Salat stressed.
Qatar’s coaching staff has been studying videos of Costa Rica and South Korea matches played recently. The technical staff have watched Costa Rica playing against Mexico, Panama and the United States. Similarly, they studied South Korea’s matches against Brazilian, Lebanon, North Korea, Sri Lanka and Turkmenistan.
Qatar will be playing South Korea in their next friendly match in Austra on Nov 17.
“South Korea is considered one of the best Asian teams and facing them is a good preparation for Al Annabi,” said Salat.
Qatar coach Felix Sanchez has chosen a squad of 27 players for the two international friendlies which includes Mishal Barsham, Pedro Miguel, Tariq Salman, Abdel-Karim Hassan, Boualem Khoukhi, Hassan Al Haydos, Akram Afif, Musab Khudar, Muhammad Waad, Yousif Abdulsaq, Ahmed Suhail, Almoez Ali, Karim Boudiaf, Ismail Muhammad, Abdullah Abd Al Salam, Mahdi Ali, Ahmad Alaa al-Din, Moayed Hassan, Humam Ahmad, Abdullah Maarifieh, Ahmed Fathy, Ahmed Moein, Abdel Aziz Hatem, Fahd Younis, Mohammed Abu Nada and Issa Ahmed.
