The Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) Doha LLC (G) conducted a timely webinar on the topic of digital transformation, IT audit and the effects of the pandemic on the overall ICT environment on Friday.
More than 50 PICPA members, associates and guests participated in the webinar led by Alvin Polido, PICPA Doha LLC (G) President.
Zandro Gigantoca, a multi-certified
audit professional with a wide range of experience in IT audit, controls and assurance services, was the keynote speaker. He
started the session emphasising the demand for digital technology.
During the webinar, the positive impact of digital transformation on different processes was highlighted. The speaker stressed on how leveraging on digital platforms had advanced the way we do things across different fields -- i.e., education, health care, tourism, security, banking, among others. He also shared the contribution of digital transformation in the attainment of economic and governance strategies, citing examples within the GCC.
The speaker also underlined that although advancement of technology had been underway in the past years, the current pandemic had thrusted this process at full speed. Additionally, he said, the pandemic had also changed the way technology and data are used to adapt to the new environment and address the challenges posed by the restrictions. Digital platforms are now used in activities that were not too popular prior to the pandemic, e.g., grocery shopping, medical consultations and the need to be in the office for business operations, he added.
With the growth and increased digitalization of processes, audit professionals will equally need to improve their scope. Additional controls considerations on cybersecurity, data privacy, access restrictions and cloud-based data management will need to be addressed. This also poses a challenge for auditors and accountants to increase their knowledge to cope with the fast-progressing automation and digital transformation trend.
The webinar fostered engagement and interaction through the lively facilitation of Wilnessa Dugang, Co-chairman for Membership and Michelle Baraquio, Chairman for Corporate Governance as the programme emcees.
