His Highness the Amir of State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the President of the Republic of Turkey Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Thursday discussed the strategic bilateral cooperation between the two countries. The talks focused on the political, economic, investment, defense, energy, education, transport, and sports among other issues.
The sixth meeting of the Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee, which was held at the presidential palace in Ankara, reviewed the outcomes of the previous meetings, and the ways to enhance the committee’s work to advance the interest of the people of the two countries.
The two sides also discussed the latest regional and international developments, and exchanged views regarding them. The two sides focused in particular on developments in Palestine, Libya, and Syria.
Afterwards, HH the Amir and the Turkish president witnessed the signing of a memorandum to purchase a stake in Istinye Park shopping center, a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between Qatar Investment Authority and Altin Halic on potential joint investment in the Golden Horn project, a memorandum to purchase a stake in Borsa Istanbul, an agreement selling and purchasing Ortadogu Antalya port between Global Liman and QTerminals, and a memorandum of understanding between Qatar Free Zones Authority and the Turkish Ministry of Trade on cooperating in the field of free zones.
HH the Amir and the Turkish president also witnessed the signing of a joint statement on the establishment of a joint economic and trade committee between the Qatari Ministry of Commerce and Industry and the Turkish Ministry of Trade, a memorandum of understanding on cooperation in the field of managing water, a Letter of Intent between the Qatari Ministry of Finance and the Turkish Ministry of Finance and Treasury that aims to enhance cooperation in the economic and financial fields, a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in family, women, and social services affairs, a declaration of intent on exchanging diplomats between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Diplomatic Institute and the Diplomacy Academy of the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the signing of the meeting minutes of the Qatar-Turkey Supreme Strategic Committee.
The signing ceremony was attended by members of the official delegation accompanying HH the Amir. It was attended on the Turkish side by ministers and ranking officials.
In the evening, HH the Amir left Ankara. HH the Amir sent a message to the Turkish president, expressing his thanks and appreciation for the warm hospitality and honor His Highness and the accompanying delegation received during the official visit. HH the Amir wished the president good health and wellness and continued success, and for the brother Turkish people further progress and prosperity.
