Qatar’s industrial production prices in October increased 5 percent from September, mostly due to an increase in prices in the mining group, which includes oil and gas production.
According to the Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA), the key Industrial Production Index stood at 44.2 points in October down 25.7 percent from a year ago.
The mining component of the index, which has a relative weightage of 83.6 percent, showed an increase of 5.8 percent month-on-month and a decrease 30.8 percent year-on-year.
The m-o-m jump in mining output was driven by an increase in prices of extracting crude oil and natural gas, by 5.8 percent. Prices under the stone, sand and clay group showed a month-on-month decline of 0.5 percent.
Qatar’s manufacturing index — which has a relative weightage of 15.2 percent in the index — in October showed a 3.7-percent increase from September. However, manufacturing prices in five groups went down — other chemical products and fibres by 3.3 percent; basic chemicals and cement and other non-metallic products by 1.7 percent each, rubber and plastics products by 0.8 percent and grain mill and other products by 0.5 percent.
