The Pfizer and BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine is safe and it has passed all the regulatory approvals, a senior Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) official has said.
In a video posted on MoPH’s Twitter account, Dr Soha Al Bayat, Head of Vaccination at MoPH, said, “Many are wondering if the vaccine is safe since it was developed so fast. And the answer is yes. There’s no bypassing of any of the usual steps and measures taken to develop the vaccine. There’s no bypassing of any of the safety tests.”
She said this vaccine was developed in such a short time because the foundation for the vaccine and the platform were already there. “So, they didn’t have to start from zero. Usually they take steps one after the other, this time they did it in parallel to save time. And the most important reason is that usually financing of the manufacturing of vaccine takes a long time. But the world came together and they all participated and funded the manufacturing of the vaccine, which enabled it to be developed and to be used much faster,” she said.
Dr Soha Al Bayat assured that the vaccine is proven to be safe and the side-effects are normal – nothing critical or dangerous. “It has been approved by the FDA in the US, and many ministries of the health around the world. The UK has already started the vaccination and thus far no critical or serious side-effects were noted. Take the vaccine to protect yourself and your loved ones,” she said.
