Dr. Mowafa Househ, Associate Professor at the College of Science and Engineering (CSE) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University (HBKU), delivered two talks organised by institutions in the USA and Canada to strengthen international collaboration. Dr Mowafa spoke on ‘AI Mental Health: Challenges and Opportunities’ during a guest lecture at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, New York. He presented an overview of his work on mental health AI in the Middle East, during the pandemic, and beyond, highlighting the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) to prevent, diagnose and treat mental health.
Dr. Mowafa also participated in the CHI Virtual Speaker Series of the University of Calgary, where he spoke on Mental Health Informatics: From Stigma to Empowerment – A Middle Eastern Perspective. During his presentation, he highlighted three of the projects and applications that he is currently working on: ESRA, SUKUN and MOMEEHED provide digital mental health support and are designed to empower individuals and families in Qatar and the MENA region.
