Injaaz Stud’s Gaby De Faust (Dahess x Voltah) made a good impression when fourth on her Qatar debut in the Oaks earlier this month. On Wednesday, running on dirt for the first time ever, the French recruit built on that performance and was dominant in the Dukhan Cup (PA 3yo & older Fillies and Mares) at QREC’s Al Rayyan Park.
Partnered by Michael Forest, the Mohammed Riyaz Ibrahim Kasim trained 4yo was unstoppable, especially at the business end of the matters, finishing a mammoth six lengths and three quarters ahead of the competition.
Umm Qarn’s Dabaab (Munjiz x Haifaa), trained by Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle, finished runner up under Ronan Thomas while Saeed Bin Mubarak Saeed Aljafali Al Naimi’s Safae, schooled by Majed Mahadi Seifeddine, was guided to third by Ivan Rossi.
Injaaz Stud’s IzzThatRight (Moss Vale x Miss Adelaide) had never finished outside the top five since April 2016 and that is a testament to the gelding’s excellent record around Al Rayyan Park.
While his strike rate may have dipped slightly as the Zuhair Mohsen Zuhair Maki saddled 8yo grew older, there was little stopping the bay horse in the 1000m Thoroughbreds (Class 2) sprint.
Helmed by Ali Khalid Al Mosallam, Izzthatright landed the sprint with ease, finishing two lengths and a quarter ahead of Soufiane Saadi ridden X Force. The win was 12th of the season for the apprentice rider.
Al Shaqab Racing’s Bsheer (Amer x Frynch) and longtime partner Faleh Bughanaim entered the winner’s circle together for the first time in almost two years when the duo landed the Purebred Arabian Handicap (90 & below) in a thrilling fashion.
After Bsheer took the lead coming on to the final straight in the 1900m run, Ronan Thomas ridden Winne Taouy began a pursuit of his own, eventually breathing down the leader’s neck in the final furlong. However, Bsheer managed to keep his neck ahead throughout for a scintillating victory.
Al Rabban Racing’s Shawaaheq (Tamayuz x Jabhaat) registered his first victory in Qatar when the 4yo landed the Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 4) (85 & below) with ease. Alban Elie Marie De Mieulle trained gelding had Ronan Thomas for company in the 1700m run on dirt, and despite a wider start than most, Shawaaheq took the advantage with ease under a fantastic ride and the duo went past the post four lengths ahead of the competition. Francois Herholdt guided Massam to second.
Qatari rider Meteb Ali Al Marri rode his second winner when he guided Abdul Rahman bin Hamad bin Abdul Rahman Al Attiyah’s Third World (Dansili x Sense Of Purpose) to a scintillating victory in the Thoroughbred Novice Plate (Class 6).
Trained by Gassim Mohammad Ghazali, the 4yo had put up some creditable performances coming into the 1900m run, including a third over C&D on his last start earlier this month.
Third World was unstoppable as he raced to a victory with nine lengths and three quarters to spare.
Mubarak Zayed Al Shahwani’s Satam (TM Fred Texas x Dixie Darlene) was fourth over C&D in his season opener in October before a few fair results since then.

Running on dirt for the first time in Qatar in the Thoroughbred Maiden Plate (Class 6), the bay gelding-- 13th in Al Rayyan Stakes earlier this month -- made full use of a weight advantage (50.5kgs) to beat Ali Khalid Al Mosallam ridden I Am Thunder by two lengths at the post.
Hamad Ahmed Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani’s Mater (Footstepsinthesand x Golden Mask) had shown promise coming into Local Thoroughbred Maiden Plate, never finishing outside the money in five previous starts.
And in the six furlong sprint on dirt, the 3yo built on that promise to step into the winner’s circle for the first time following a thrilling finish.
