The return of Longines Qatar Equestrian Tour Hathab supported by The Social & Sport Contribution Fund to Al Shaqab’s Longines Outdoor Arena saw young riders jostle with competition with their horses relishing jumping on the open expanse of the glorious venue on Saturday.
The event was held as per the guideline of Ministry of Public Health and with all health and safety precautionary measures in place.
Such was the showjumping action that the six bars were raised to a height of 165cm given the good show.
Former champion and a strong contender Salmeen Sultan Al Suwaidi, however, stood out as he clinched the Big Tour class of the seventh round of Longines Hathab astride 10-year-old gelding Aslan 69.
The 25-year-old Qatar Armed Forces rider emerged fastest in the145cm class in a time of 34.53 seconds. The victory also saw Al Suwaidi claim QR11,250 in prize-money besides the valuable points.
The best of 12-rounds Hathab series takes into account the best seven results and the most number of points accumulated in deciding overall champions of the domestic series each year in various categories.
In second place was Nasser Al Ghazali on Quel Homme, with the pair coming home in 37.56 seconds.
Hamad Nasser Al Qadi looked good to challenge Al Suwaidi for the top spot but a four-second penalty meant the rider had to settle for third place with SIEC Lonnie in a time of 39.66 secs.
Badr Mohammed Al Darwish, Secretary-General of Qatar and Asian Equestrian Federation, and Organizing Committee member Longines Hathab, crowned the winners of the Big Tour.
Meanwhile, Faris Saad Al Qahtani won for the second successive day. The young rider, who had won the Medium Tour astride Hidiene on Friday, scooped the Open Class title on Saturday.
Salman Mohamed Al Emadi took the runner-up spot with Zorro Z, while Rami Younis and Inzaghi Van Molenheide finished third.
In the Future Riders 80 cm class, Hadi Mansour Al Shahwani emerged victorious with Kashmir in a time of 20.68 seconds. Less than two seconds behind was Barzan Azzam Saleh with Ilse. Saleh also claimed the third place astride Sita.
Majed Abdulrahman Al Awadh won the Future Riders 90cm class with Latino 291 in a time of 21.32 secs
Abdulaziz Khalid Al Bukhari (Gi Molga) came second, while Kanz Azzam Abdulla Saleh (Ubor) finished third.
The Open class winners were awarded by Ahmed Al Hameedi and Rashid Al Amri.
The Future Riders’ class saw a new high in terms of entries. The competition in both the 80 and 90cm events was intense where Hadi Mansour Al Shahwani excelled on his horse Kashmir (27.26secs and 20.68secs) in the 80cm class to win the Table A, Two phases, Art. 274.1.5.3 class.
