Umm Qarn’s Aahil (Munjiz x Daniah) defended his crown in HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Trophy (Local Purebred Arabians – 4 Year Olds & Older) in a dominant fashion at turf track at Al Rayyan Park on Thursday.
Hamad bin Abdulrahman Al Attiyah, President of Qatar and Asian Equestrian Federations, and QREC Vice-Chairman, crowned the winners.
The mile long finale of a top quality meeting saw Ronan Thomas helm the Alban Elie De Mieulle trained 7yo and the duo led a one-two for the colours and the trainer.
Entered twice before this season, the grey horse progressed well even as he kept stepping up in distance from a 1100m sprint to seven furlongs last month and now a miler showing his versatility.
Thomas and his mount beat Umm Qarn’s Sealine (Amer x Jaljalah), ridden by Soufiane Saadi, by four lengths and a quarter to spare.
The latter managed to edge out HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Ghali Al Athman (Harran ASF x Al Nefor), ridden by Tomas Lukasek for trainer Julian Colin Smart, by a short-head for the runners-up spot.
Umm Qarn’s Tayf (Amer x Djelmila) followed up his spectacular Qatar Arabian World Cup in ParisLongchamp with a fantastic win in the HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Cup (Gr2 PA)for Purebred Arabians 4 Year Olds & Older.
Alban Elie De Mieulle’s ward had missed out on winning the event for the last two years finishing third in 2020 and runner up the year before.
On Thursday, however, the 9yo, with Ronan Thomas in the saddle, had little trouble landing the mile long run comfortably, winning with three lengths and a quarter to spare.
The quality race saw HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa Al Thani’s Ebraz (Amer x Massamarie), winner in 2019, finishing second under Tomas Lukasek, edging out Salman Mohammned Alemadi’s DJALNOR (No Risk Al Maury x Djalmina) by a neck.
HH Sheikh Mohammed bi Khalifa Al Thani’s Eaz Qatar (Amer x Djainka Des Forges) beat a group of colts to land her second career win in three starts.
Helmed by Alberto Sanna for the third straight time, the Julian Colin Smart-trained filly topped the HH Sheikh Abdullah Bin Khalifa Al Thani Silver Cup (Purebred Arabians 4 Year Olds Only) in a close finish.
Running her longest distance in her short career so far at 2200m, Eaz Qatar edged out Umm Qarn’s Derby winner Antar (Al Mamun Monlau x Al Dahma), ridden by Ronan Thomas, by a half a length at the post.
Another Smart ward, Dawi (Amer x Djamour Des Forges) completed the top three under Francois Herholdt, also in the silks of HH Sheikh Mohammed.
Mohammed Bin Ahmed Bin Mohammed Al Attiya’s Ateej (AF AlBahar x Sahara Croixnoire) built on a couple of credible performances this season when he landed his fifth career victory.
In the Majd Al Arab P/A Sprinter Championship (Gr3 PA) (4yo & older), the Gassim Ghazali trained 8yo had Marco Casamento for company and the duo, who had finished second together in the bay horse’s season opener in October, won the 1100m sprint in fine fashion.
Ateej won by a length and a quarter at the post in front of JP Guillambert ridden Kasser.
Patrice Alexandre Nicolet’s Top Max (Joshua Tree x Risky Nizzy) had made a promising start to his term in Qatar in a C&D Group 2 last month finishing fourth.
On Thursday, in the Umm Qarn Trophy (Thoroughbreds (Class 2)), the Alban Elie De Mieulle trained 5yo landed his first victory at Al Rayyan Park topping the 2000m run on turf in fine fashion.
Helmed by Ronan Thomas for the second straight outing, the gelding won by two and a half lengths, edging out Soufiane Saadi-ridden Pazeer, who finished runner up for the third straight time, for the win.
Umm Qarn’s Equinoxe (Atlantic Air x Thurayya) completed a hat-trick entering the winner’s circle for the third straight time.
The Alban Elie De Mieulle trained colt had started his career with a pair of runner up finishes, before bagging a string of wins, including the French King Cup (Local Thoroughbreds 4 YEAR Olds & Older).
In the miler, the Ronan Thomas ridden colt was given a threatening chase by Alberto Sanna ridden Al Lusail, who stayed on the heels of the leader right till the end, before only managing a second place finish half a length behind.
Abdullah Bin Ali Bin Khalifa Al Attiya’s Karbasann (Siyouni x Karawana) made a winning debut in Qatar topping the Yasmeen Cup (Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 3) Rated 70 – 90).
Helmed by Soufiane Saadi in the 1850m run on turf, the gelding started wide before holding on to his advantage on the home straight to win by one and a half length.
In the process the 4yo led a one-two for trainer Ibrahim Saeed Al Malki with Killian Leonard guiding Al Haitham to second place.
Ibrahim Hassan Al Malki Al Jehani’s Skip The Queue (Acclamation x Red Perdita) was far from disgraced in higher company in a few of the recent starts, and the Hamad Al Jehani trained colt build on those performances to win for the second time this season.
Ridden by Carlos Henrique in the Charm Spirit Cup (Thoroughbred Handicap Class 3) Rated 70 – 90), the 4yo colt won the seven furlong in a thrilling finish that saw Saleh Salem Al Marri ridden Al Mohalhal by a head at the post.
Hamad Bin Abdulrahman Bin Hamad Al Attiya’s Rex Place (Battle Of Marengo x Green Chorus) bounced back from a couple of forgettable handicap runs to register his second career win.
In the Very Nice Name Cup (Thoroughbred Novice Plate (Class 5)), the Gassim Ghazali trained 5yo had JP Guillambert for company and the duo bagged the miler in a close finish. Rex Place won with three-quarters of a length to spare with Tomas Lukasek guiding Stefano Ibido schooled Markhor finishing runner up.
