Hamad General Hospital’s Pediatric Department is organizing a two-week of activities from 18 to 29 September to mark this year’s Child Health Awareness month under the slogan: “Our future is our children; Let’s together promote their health”. “September is Children's Health Awareness Month and each year, the world is reminded of the importance of keeping children healthy and active in places where they live, play, and learn. This important annual celebration aims to get all organizations and agencies invest in children's health to raise awareness about the importance of children's welfare in the world, noted Hamad Medical Corporation’s Head of Pediatric, Dr. Mohammed Al Amri.
He stated that caring for the health of community members and children’s health in particular, is essential for the advancement of society and the enjoyment of healthy life free from any epidemics and diseases. “Celebrating children’s health encourages the focus on and promotion of health and nutrition, physical activity, and healthy habits for children. Dr. Al Amri said that the added stress of the COVID-19 pandemic during past years makes it even more important to acknowledge and focus on the health of children. Therefore, in the spirit of Children's Health Awareness Month, Hamad General Hospital’s Pediatric Department is organizing an awareness campaign from 18 to 29 September to promote healthy lifestyles and advocate for children's wellbeing,” he said.
According to Dr. Al Amri, the campaign will include interactive face-to-face communication with the public to ensure they are aware of children’s well-being and to provide them with child health education such as immunization or vaccinations and the importance of healthy food for children. He stated that the event will also create awareness about methods and ways to protect children and maintain their safety outside and inside the home, including first aid for children in the event of accidents such as choking.
In addition, the campaign will also raise awareness of the most common diseases in children, such as anemia, vitamin D deficiency, constipation, diabetes and obesity, respiratory disorders, kidney diseases, allergies, and neurological and heart diseases.
Speaking further about children’s health, Dr. Al Amri stated that, children are the future and, they are men and women of tomorrow, and the parents of the future. “The State of Qatar is putting in great effort to in raise the level of health services provided to children and it seeks to ensure they receive full and comprehensive health care, which is their basic and most essential right. So, the health of our children should always be of paramount importance to us, and we should all keep promoting this vision,” Dr. Al Amri emphasized.
