Doha
A massive dust storm swept through the country on Thursday, reducing visibility to as low as two km in most areas.
“We are observing a decrease in the horizontal visibility in most regions of the country, and currently reaching 2 KM in the capital Doha. Please be careful,” Qatar Meteorology Department (QMD) said in a tweet.
The dusty weather continued for some time. The bad weather conditions prevailing across the country have forced several entities to postpone their competitions and activities that were to be held on Thursday or Friday.
Al Khor Carnival, which was supposed to open on Thursday, has been postponed, organisers said in a tweet. The opening has been postponed to January 23 due to the unexpected weather conditions.
Similarly, the Aspire Zone Foundation also postponed the Qatar Strongest Man competition.
“Due to the unexpected weather conditions and for your safety, the event will be held on January 29,” the organisers said.
Meanwhile, the Qatari Al-Gannas Association said the organising committee of the Marmi festival decided to postpone the championship of the 21-22 group until Wednesday, January 27, due to the bad weather.
Likewise, Katara has also suspended the activities of the Mahaseel market on Thursday.
