Doka Qatar, a subsidiary of Doka headquartered in Austria, has launched its ‘BAG YOUR TRASH’ campaign at Sealine in Mesaieed in support of Qatar’s efforts to raise awareness of keeping its sea and coastlines clean.
The campaign, supported by the Ministry of Environment, is designed to educate the public on proper trash disposal before leaving beach areas.
Matthew Kretzmann, managing director of Doka Qatar, said: “The public should understand the importance of protecting the ocean. As an established private company in Qatar, Doka is a keen supporter of keeping the country’s beautiful coastline and abundant marine life intact.
“As citizens and residents, we all stand to benefit from doing our part and ensuring that waste is disposed of in the correct manner. The ocean provides 50 percent of the oxygen we breathe and helps regulate the climate. It is also a food source for billions of people around the globe, while also sustaining thousands of jobs in the fisheries sector.”
As part of the campaign, Doka installed two message boards with dispensers filled with trash bags at Sealine near the camel rides and beach area. The beachgoers are then able to collect two trash bags from the dispenser at no cost.
The concept is to use one to fill your own trash bag and the other for garbage that is already in the immediate area around you. Beachgoers can then place the full trash bags in any of the disposal bins provided by the municipality before leaving, ensuring all of us can do our part in protecting our seas and oceans.
Marine pollution is one of the world’s leading environmental challenges with land activities remaining one of the primary causes. As a result, the damage caused by discarded waste not only threatens the existence of millions of marine species, but also poses a significant threat to human health.
