Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) has donated 11 dialysis machines to Gaza’s Ministry of Health’s hospitals to improve dialysis services.
This contribution, which is part of QRCS’ Gaza Dialysis Services Support project, will benefit three MoH hospitals for a total of $486,000, with the goal of improving the quality of health services for patients with kidney failure in Gaza.
Dr Akram Nassar, head of the QRCS Representation Mission in Gaza, said the new project would help to improve the effectiveness of the dialysis departments at Shohadaa Al-Aqsa Hospital (six machines), the European Hospital in Gaza (four machines) and the Turkish Palestinian Friendship Hospital (one machine).
"This intervention is part of QRCS’s efforts to upgrade dialysis services,” said Dr. Nassar. "In 2018, we accomplished a similar project, under which 10 dialysis machines and medical consumables were supplied for dialysis departments at some hospitals of Gaza”.
As regards the importance of the project for Gaza hospitals, Dr. Kamal Khattab, Director of Shohadaa Al-Aqsa Hospital, said, "The machines newly supplied by QRCS would represent a significant increase in the rate of results at the hospital’s dialysis department. We currently have 18 machines, and we face constant difficulties with low output rates of 50-60 per cent due to recurrent machine breakdowns, lack of spare parts in the middle of the blockade, and repetitive power cuts that cause machines to suddenly stop working.”
The new machines were expected to improve the quality of service at the hospital’s dialysis department. This will ease the burden on the medical staff and alleviate the suffering of patients.
Dr. Khattab valued QRCS’ humanitarian role and health interventions, which give a boost to the health sector of Gaza.
