The second International Biobanking Conference 2021, organised by Qatar Biobank -- part of QF-RDI -- in partnership with European and Middle Eastern Society for Biopreservation and Biobanking (ESBB) and supported by BBMRI-ERIC and ISBER, concluded after three days of discussions centred on the theme ‘Biobankng for precision care and lessons learned from global crises’.
During the three days, 4,372 attendees from 40 countries registered for the conference and attended the sessions, which marked a great success for the event held virtually for the first time. The conference included a virtual closing ceremony where Mohammed H Al Dosari, Qatar Biobank communication and participants recruitment manager, announced the nine winners of the top three Abstract Oral Presentations, Flash Talk Presentations and E-poster Presentations.
The closing speeches where presented by Dr Nahla Afifi, director, Qatar Biobank, and Rosita Kammler, ESBB president, thanking the attendees for making the conference a success and adding value to the discussions during the sessions.
The conference was held for the first time in 2019, and the agreement between ESBB, Qatar biobank and Qatar Foundation aims to host the conference once every two years in Qatar. Although held virtually this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the organisers expressed hope to host a regular third edition in 2023 in Qatar.
