The Pakistani community in Qatar yesterday (Tuesday) observed their country’s National Day with traditional fervour and enthusiasm.
Pakistan Day is celebrated on March 23 every year in remembrance of the historic 1940 Resolution passed in Lahore, calling for a separate homeland for Muslims of the Subcontinent that ultimately led to the creation of Pakistan on August 14, 1947.
The celebrations of the day kicked off with an impressive flag hoisting ceremony held in the Pakistan embassy premises in the diplomatic area in the morning. A smart contingent of Pakistan Armed Forces escorted Pakistan Ambassador HE Syed Ahsan Raza Shah to the venue.
The envoy unfurled the white-green Pakistani flag to the tune of Pakistan’s national anthem.
The attendance of guests was kept to a minimum level in light of the precautions of the COVID-19 pandemic. A special cake was cut to mark the occasion. The guests were served the traditional Pakistani breakfast.
Speaking to media persons on the occasion, the ambassador congratulated his compatriots on the auspicious occasion of their country’s National Day. The ambassador said the day inspires all Pakistanis to serve their country with greater dedication and to raise the green flag that symbolises hopes and aspirations, even higher.
The ambassador called upon the Pakistani community in Qatar to follow the local rules especially the guidelines related to COVID-19.
The ambassador noted that bilateral relations between Pakistan and Qatar are based on historical bonds of a shared fate, heritage, and culture. The visit by the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani to Pakistan and three visits by Prime Minister Imran Khan to Qatar have further strengthened relations between the two fraternal nations, he said.
Pakistan’s trade, defence, political and diplomatic relations with Qatar have witnessed an up-swing during the past two-and-a-half years. Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureishi also visited Qatar. All the three service chiefs of Pakistan Armed Forces, including the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, visited Qatar during the last three months.
The envoy noted that trade and commercial relations between Pakistan and Qatar have witnessed substantial growth. “Besides giving credit to my government in this regard, I would particularly like to thank His Highness The Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and His Highness the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani for their keenness to translate our bilateral relations into tangible results,” remarked the ambassador.
The ambassador expressed pride in the contribution of the Pakistani community, which is a living bridge between the two countries, in the remarkable progress and prosperity of Qatar. He paid rich tributes to the Pakistani community in Qatar, which he said, has love for the country and is filled with the zeal to participate in Pakistan’s and Qatar’s progress and development.
He said the embassy’s doors are open for all Pakistanis irrespective of their position or background. “When Pakistanis step into the embassy premises we want them to feel that they have come to their own place where they will be welcomed and where their issues will be resolved in the shortest possible time,” said the envoy.
He added that the mission has taken a number of steps to further improve the embassy and consular services and would welcome any feedback in this regard.
“I am now in my third year here and it’s time to get the feedback to see and know how far successful we have been in our efforts, and to know if there were still shortcomings in our system,” remarked the envoy, while adding that there is always room for improvement.
He noted that there was somehow a feeling of disconnect between the embassy and a section of the community. “This is due to the coronavirus, otherwise we would have sorted everything out. We still have plenty of time to streamline coordination between the embassy and the community members,” stressed the envoy.
Pakistan President Dr Arif Alvi and Prime Minister Imran Khan also sent special messages on the occasion of Pakistan Day.Message of Pakistan President Dr Arif Alvi
On this Pakistan Day, we pay homage to the founding fathers of Pakistan whose services and sacrifices led to the creation of a separate homeland for the Muslims of the sub-continent. Today, we reaffirm our resolve to make Pakistan an economically stronger and prosperous country.
On this historic day, we vow to continue our struggle to make our society humane, inclusive and tolerant to other minorities residing in Pakistan. We also pledge to uphold democratic values, rule of law and the Islamic way of life in our country as envisioned by our founding fathers.
Today, we also salute our heroes, particularly the health workers and other concerned agencies, who played a great role in containing COVID-19 and providing health care to the people in the hour of need. We laud our health professionals for their untiring efforts who selflessly served the nation during the crisis. I urge my fellow countrymen to follow all SOPs concerning COVID-19 so as to overcome the third wave of the pandemic. I am sure that with unity, faith and discipline we can overcome any challenge that comes our way. May Allah be with us all.Message from Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan
March 23, 1940 was a momentous occasion when the
Muslims of the subcontinent decided to establish a
separate homeland.
Today, we pay tribute to the Father of the Nation and all the leaders of the Independence Movement who united Muslims of British India and struggled for creation of a free and independent Muslim State. The struggle culminated in the emergence of Pakistan on the map of the world on August 14, 1947.
While commemorating this day, we need to adhere to the principles of Unity, Faith and Discipline given by Quid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah. Our vision is to transform Pakistan into a truly democratic welfare state, on the model of Riyasat-e-Madina.
Our great nation has successfully overcame challenges of immense magnitude in past through unity and resilience. Today, we need to remain strong to face the pandemic that has engulfed the entire World. Insha Allah, we will succeed in these testing times.
Today, let us renew our commitment to make Pakistan a humane, progressive and prosperous state akin to Riasat-e-Madina based on rule of law, meritocracy, egalitarianism and compassion. May Almighty Allah grant us strength to remain steadfast during all testing times.
