Injaaz Stud’s Lekhraib showed his versatility as the 7yo landed the Fuweiret Cup for Purebred Arabians in a thrilling finish in Qatar Racing & Equestrian Club’s (QREC) 41st Race Meeting at the dirt track of Al Rayyan Park on Wednesday.
Helmed by Alberto Sanna in the six furlong sprint, Lekhraib (AF AlBahar x Grace T), the two time C&D winner from this term, won for the fifth time overall this season when the Mohammed Ghazali ward edged out stablemate Fakhir (No Risk Al Maury x Chine Orientale) by a nose.
Fakhir had JP Guillambert for company and they finished two lengths in front of third placed Mohammed bin Ahmed bin Mohammed Al Attiya’s Ateej (AF AlBahar x Sahara Croixnoire), ridden by Anas Al Seyabi by Gassim Ghazali.
In the earlier races of the day, Al Azraq Stable’s Bint Saffian (Arcano x Saffian) bounced back from a forgettable outing last time round to win for the third time this term.
Below her best in the Muaither Cup back in January, the Bader Al Balushi trained mare had Ronan Thomas for company in the Thoroughbred Conditions (Class 2), and the duo did well to put up a determined run on the straight in the six furlong sprint to beat Anas Al Seyabi ridden X Force by a neck.
Injaaz Stud’s Khafooq (Kodiac x Al Manaal) completed a double when the Gassim Ghazali ward picked up a dominant win in the Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 3) (75-95).
Handicap winner at Al Uqda earlier this month, the 5yo lined up in the 1100m sprint under JP Guillambert at Al Rayyan Park’s dirt track and coasted home with a fantastic seven lengths and three quarters to spare.
Al Azraq Stable’s Immoral (Helmet x Loose Julie) has impressed many having won on his Qatar debut in January last year, and then a couple of top three finishes since this season. This time, with Ronan Thomas in the saddle, the Mohammed Ghazali schooled gelding triumphed in a short duel in the 1900m Thoroughbred Handicap (Class 4) (80 & below) as the 5yo edged out JP Guillambert ridden Message by a short head at the post.
Ali Yousuf Al Kubaisi’s Numuthej (Wootton Bassett x Encircle) won for the first time since November 2019 when the 8yo bagged the Local Thoroughbred Handicap (75 & below) in fine fashion.
Helmed by Qatari rider Ali Khalid Al Mosallam, the Owaida Salem Al Hajri trained horse beat Tomas Lukasek ridden Qawaafi by three quarters of a length. It was the bay horse’s third win in 14 outings.
Abdullah bin Fahad Al Attiyah’s Stilvio (AF AlBahar x Sylia Du Cayrou) registered his first career win when Meteb Ali Al Marri guided the 4yo to a close victory in the Purebred Arabian Handicap (70 & below).
The Mohamed Jassim Ghazali-trained colt edged out Abdulaziz Jaber Dharman ridden Ahzaab by a short head at the post as the 4yo won for the first time in eight starts.
Hassan Ali Alabdulmalik’s Mount Fuji (Dark Angel x Shermeen) bounced back from a string of forgettable finishes to win for the first time in Qatar.
The Deborah Amanda Clare Mountain-trained gelding had hit the frame on only a couple of occasions in Qatar. On this occasion, in the 1,900m Thoroughbred Novice Plate (Class 5) entered the winner’s circle for the first time here after a dominant display with a massive 15 length victory.
Subaiya Awad Ibrahim’s Suka’ar (Burning Sand x Raheel ASF) followed up his double runner up finishes with his maiden victory when the 5yo landed the Purebred Arabian Maiden Plate (4-6-Year-Old) on Wednesday.
