Galfar Al Misnad hosted a virtual awareness session on ‘Mental Health & Resilience’ with Occupational Health & Wellbeing Consultant Dr Farah Ahmed, Managing Director and Chief Medical Advisor of Noor Corporate Health, on the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work.
In addition to the online session, special toolbox talks and safety and health awareness sessions were held at the project sites of a leading Qatari construction company with COVID protocols in place.
Satish G. Pillai, Executive Director of Galfar, opened the virtual session by emphasising that the current pandemic situation has created a stressful situation for everyone; however, commitments to clients must be upheld, so it is critical to learn how to be resilient by prioritising mental health and learning coping strategies.
Dr. Farah explained in her presentation that, while Mental Health has always played an important role in Construction Safety and Health, the COVID 19 pandemic has heightened the need for raising awareness about the importance of maintaining Mental Health in order to prevent incidents at work and at home. She went on to offer helpful advice on how to care for one’s mental health, including lifestyle changes such as sleep regulation, healthy diets, and exercise, as well as seeking professional help from counsellors and psychiatrists when necessary. May is designated as Mental Health Awareness Month around the world.
Galfar Al Misnad prioritises health and safety in all of their activities.
The leading Qatari construction company has received the International Safety Award from the British Safety Council seven times, and was recently awarded the prestigious award for the fifth year in a row.
Every year on April 28th, the World Day for Safety and Health at Work is observed to promote the global prevention of occupational accidents and diseases. It is a public awareness campaign aimed at drawing international attention to the magnitude of the problem and how promoting and fostering a safety and health culture can help reduce the number of work-related deaths and injuries.
The International Labour Organization (ILO) established World Day in 2003 to emphasiSe the prevention of workplace accidents and diseases, capitalising on the ILO’s traditional strengths of tripartism and social dialogue.
