It has been a year since talabat, the region’s leading food delivery and q-commerce platform, introduced an in-app tipping feature that allows customers to express their gratitude to talabat riders.
Talabat introduced rider tipping on its platform last year to make it safer and easier for customers to recognise their hard work. Customers used to tip in cash, but due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Talabat introduced the feature to allow customers to continue appreciating riders safely.
Customers would view their previous orders and choose whether or not to tip their riders, with tips received through this feature being fully deposited into the riders’ bank accounts during their respective monthly salaries. Customers can now include a tip while waiting for their delivery, thanks to an upgrade to the tipping feature. This week, the feature was rolled out to all customers, and they can now
use the upgraded tipping feature.
Customers across the region have tipped over QR 430,000 for the hard work and dedication riders demonstrated when the general public was advised to stay at home since the feature’s initial launch.
Talabat riders across the region received nearly QAR 43,000 in tips in February 2021 alone, the highest number of tips this year. Qatari customers were the most generous, opting for the highest possible amount (QAR 8), which was available on the app for a total of QAR 127,000. Customers, interestingly, tend to be more generous on weekends, tipping slightly more on Fridays and Saturdays than the rest of the week.
Francisco Miguel de Sousa, Managing Director of talabat Qatar said, “Riders are at the heart of delivering the best possible experience, which is why it’s great that customers recognise the dedication and efforts they put into their work every day. However, we believe the upgraded tipping feature will make it easier for our customers to tip riders, knowing that they can now include their tips while they wait for their order to arrive instead of having to wait later in the process.
Our heroes are truly the backbone of talabat, and we would be nowhere without their commitment and resilience, which is why we’re excited about the upgrade of the rider tipping feature.”
