Ambassadors from African countries in Qatar have extended their best wishes on the advent of Eid Al-Fitr to the leadership of Qatar, the government, nationals and expatriates. Speaking to Qatar Tribune’s Catherine W Gichuki, the ambassadors praised Qatar for assisting many other countries, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. Excerpts:
South African Ambassador to Qatar HE Faizel Moosa
Qatar has shown enormous sense of brotherhood through charity
I want to take this opportunity to wish the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, his council of ministers and all Qataris Eid Mubarak. As we come to the end of this Holy Month of Ramadan, we should reflect on the poor across the globe. Qatar has shown an enormous sense of brotherhood by being charitable during the month of Ramadan. The Amir has also made lots of donations and assisted many countries in Africa and across the world in this month of Ramadan. This is how we as Muslims should be charitable and Qatar has shown an example.
I also wish them well for the rest of the year and a happy prosperous Eid Mubarak from the president of South Africa, myself and all South Africans to all Muslims across the world. May we continue with the good work that we have started as Muslims to bring peace and prosperity across the world.
Ghana’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Dr Emmanuel Enos
Qatar and Ghana have many similarities
I wish the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamin bin Hamad Al Thani, the people of Qatar and everyone residing in Qatar a Happy Eid.
Qatar and Ghana continue to enjoy fruitful relationship in many areas.
There are so many similarities about how Qatar and Ghana celebrate Ramadan and Eid Al-Fitr.
During the month of Ramadan, both Ghana and Qatar exhibit a strong bond between families, friends and neighbours as well as the needy. There is unity among relatives and friends during Ramadan. Some family members abroad visit their home country during Ramadan just to be with their kith and kin. Just like Qatar and most Islamic countries, Ghanaians also resort to locally-made dishes for iftar.
I would like to thank the government of Qatar for standing with Ghanaians and other expatriates during the COVID-19 pandemic. Qatar magnanimously offered the vaccine to the eligible population in Qatar free of charge regardless of where they come from. The Qatar government has supported Ghanaian expatriates in the country in many ways since the pandemic began.
Finally, I would like to urge Ghanaians in the country to continue to be good ambassadors of Ghana as they have always been.
Ugandan Ambassador to Qatar HE Dr Stephen Chemoiko Chebrot
Qatar gives equal opportunities to all people
I wish to take this opportunity to wish the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the government and the people of Qatar a Happy Eid Al-Fitr.
Qatar and Uganda have enjoyed wonderful bilateral relations in various areas and Qatar has given Ugandans a place they can call home. I wish to thank Qatar for allowing not only Ugandans but also other expatriates to live in Qatar. Qatar has given everyone residing in the country an equal opportunity. Qatar has provided COVID-19 vaccine for everyone regardless of their nationality, religion or social status free of charge, which is very commendable. During the peak of the COVID-19 last year, the government of Qatar through Qatar Charity provided food packages to those who were in need. In addition, through Qatar Airways, they helped in repatriation of Ugandans who wished to go home during the pandemic.
On behalf of the Ugandan government and people, I wish to convey a message of gratitude to Qatar for standing with Ugandans in the times of distress.
I would also like to invite Qatari businessmen to Uganda and Africa in general where there are so many investment opportunities. Uganda is a good investment destination for businessmen, especially from Qatar bearing in mind that Uganda has favourable weather all year-round and its geographical location is also good. Businessmen from Qatar and Uganda can foster collaborations in food industry, agriculture, mining, tourism, health, information technology, among other areas.
I urge Ugandan expatriates to continue being good ambassadors and continue to support Qatar National Vision 2030 in whichever sector they are in.
Kenyan Ambassador to Qatar HE Paddy C Ahenda
Qatar’s government has handled the COVID-19 pandemic so well
It’s another year and another time that we celebrate the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan. Allow me, on behalf of myself and Kenyans in Qatar, to send my congratulatory message of good wishes to wish the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and the beautiful people of Qatar a happy Eid Al-Fitr celebrations. The COVID-19 pandemic has brought a lot of challenges but the way Qatar’s government has handled the situation is something worth noting. As we move ahead, may the good and cordial relationships that our two countries have enjoyed continue to prosper and we wish our bilateral relations further growth and development.
Ethiopian Ambassador to Qatar HE Samia Zekaria
Eid celebration is a unique moment
I have the honour to extend my sincere congratulations and best wishes to the Amir His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the government and the people of Qatar on the occasion of the advent of Eid Al-Fitr, wishing the friendly people of Qatar further prosperity and stability. It also gives me a great pleasure to extend my warm greetings to all Ethiopians and everyone in Qatar on this occasion.
In Ethiopia, where the first followers of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) sought refuge in the 7th century AD, Eid celebration is always a unique moment. Being home to Al Nejashi Mosque - the first mosque in Africa and one of the oldest mosques in the world; the walled city of Harar - the fourth holiest city of Islam after Mecca, Medina and Jerusalem; and Bilal ibn Rabah (Ethiopian) - the first mu’azzin (caller of the Adhan), Ethiopia highly cherishes its long-standing relations with the Islamic countries and Qatar in particular.
I look forward to strengthening the whole-rounded bilateral relations between Ethiopia and Qatar. Eid Mubarak!
