COME September 1 and Qatar will receive its first ever fully vegan cafe, called Evergreen Organics founded by Ghanim al Sulaiti and Jowaher al Fardan.
First of its kind, the cafe aims to promote healthy living in the society through plant-based lifestyle. Evergreen Organics is a concept that came to Sulaiti once he decided to turn vegan himself and realised the change it brought to his life."Conscious eating is not a diet; it is a way of life which declares that you are the expert of your own body. Conscious eating is all about paying attention to your body and what you put in it, and you just have to listen to it to know what, when and how much to eat," says Sulaiti.
Sulaiti has brought in international vegan chefs who have helped create the menu for the cafe."We don't compromise on quality. Our menu has been expertly designed to nourish, heal and inspire. It contains many gluten free and sugar free options as well. The cafe uses only organic, chemical free ingredients and carefully selects medicinal herbs and super foods," Sulaiti adds.
Located at Qanat Quartier, The Pearl Evergreen Organics will be open during the day, serving juices as well as full meals for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. The menu has a wide range of options. It serves appetisers that include raw zaatar flatbreads, curried butter beans, salads, sandwiches made with whole grain bread, a main course that includes innovative ideas such as zucchini noodles, quinoa, saffron rice, etc. The menu also offers a variety of tea options, artisanal coffees, smoothies, juices and infused water. The prices range between QR25 and QR100.
Apart from the unique concept of a vegan cafe Evergreen Organics has gone eco-friendly with regard to the furnishings and uses only biodegradable cutlery that demonstrates their respect for the environment.
"Eating is a natural and pleasurable activity to satisfy hunger. Unfortunately, we live in a society of junk food, where eating healthy and consciously is a joke and meals are often mindless and guilt-inducing," says Sulaiti who hopes to bring about a change in the way people eat and live.
He further says,"I am not here to tell you that following a plant-based diet is the choice for you. Every person is different. It's just a matter of eating more consciously."
As of now Evergreen Organics is just a small step towards creating a change and to help people rethink their food habits and lifestyle.
