Galfar Toastmasters Club has received the first Diamond Corporate Club Award from Toastmasters International. The prestigious award, which was introduced this year, was given in recognition of the club’s exceptional support of Toastmasters International’s communication and leadership programs. Toastmasters International Director Aletta Rochat announced the award at the recently concluded District 116 Toastmasters Annual Conference (DTAC) ‘Virtu Vocal 2021’.
Galfar Toastmasters Club has won the Best Corporate Club award several times in the last 12 years and is regarded as one of the most sustainable and successful corporate clubs in Qatar. This new award adds another feather to the successful club’s cap.
Galfar Al Misnad, a leading construction company in Qatar for over 25 years, established its own Corporate Toastmasters Club in 2009 as a management initiative to develop staff members’ leadership and communication skills. The company has seen a large number of employees improve their performance in their functional roles as good speakers and effective leaders as a result of this programme.
“The management has provided sustained support to our Toastmasters club for more than a decade now. We have seen that the Toastmasters initiatives motivate our employees and have served as a catalyst for leadership building in the organization,” said Satish G. Pillai, Executive Director, Galfar Al Misnad.
Within three years of its inception, members of GTM began competing in Area contests, and since then, GTM has ensured its representation in speech contests all the way up to the District level. Galfar Toastmasters has also provided many dynamic leaders to the Qatar Toastmasters community, serving at the Area, Division, and District levels.
“It is the great vision of our Executive Director, Satish G. Pillai and the senior management that has motivated Galfar employees to develop their communication and leadership skills. Through the team effort of senior members, newly joined members and the Executive Committee members, we were able to retain our position at the top. GTM strives to produce great speakers and leaders so that the individual can improve themselves as well as the company’s performance,” said Subramanya Hebbagelu, President of Galfar Toastmasters Club.
Galfar Toastmasters Club and its members received many awards at the virtual conference, including the Diamond Corporate Club Award. GTM also received the Golden Quarter Award, the Silver Membership Award, the Golden Membership Award, the Glittering Membership Award, the Smedley Award, the Talk Up Toastmasters Award, the Swift Seven Award, and the Pinnacle Crown Award.
