Darfur Governor Mini Arko Minawi called on Qatari businessmen to invest in the natural-resource-rich Sudanese region he says holds distinctive geographical advantages due to its proximity to large African markets.
He appealed to the businessmen in Qatar to explore the investment opportunities being extended by Darfur, especially in sectors such as agriculture, livestock, mining and infrastructure, in a meeting with Qatar Chamber officials headed by First Vice-Chairman Mohamed bin Twar Al Kuwari.
The Darfur delegation headed by Minawi comprised a number of ministers, government officials and consultants as well as Sudan’s Ambassador to Qatar HE Ahmed Abdel-Rahman Siwar Al Dahab.
Minawi thanked Qatar for its support for Sudan during the past years, and thanked Qatar Chamber for hosting the meeting. He also lauded the distinguished relations between the two countries, stressing the strong desire of the Sudanese side to attract more Qatari investments to Darfur, He said the region holds significant investment potential and has an abundance of opportunities, especially after the passing of a new investment law that further facilitates investments in the region.

For his part, the QC first vice-chairman said Darfur is close to the hearts of Qataris, noting that the time was appropriate for Qatari investors to invest in Darfur.
Kuwari assured the visiting delegation of Qatari businessmen’s strong desire to learn about the opportunities available in Darfur, affirming the importance of the Sudanese delegation’s visit to Qatar in developing relations between the private sectors of the two countries.
He stressed that Qatar Chamber would promote opportunities available in Darfur among Qatari investors and QC members and encourage them to invest in there, especially in important sectors like agriculture, industry, mining and infrastructure.
Ambassador of Sudan to Qatar HE Ahmed Siwar Al Dahab praised the close relations between both countries, underscoring the importance of activating the Qatar-Sudan Business Council and its role in developing the cooperation between the private sectors on both the sides.
The Sudanese delegation presented the most important opportunities available in Darfur in many sectors, including medical gases, agriculture, modern slaughterhouse, sugar, cement, feathers, mining, pharmaceuticals, food stuffs, furniture, oils, fodders and other sectors.
