The first hatching of the endangered hawksbill sea turtles was recorded at Fuwairit beach, coinciding with World Environment Day which is being celebrated this year under the slogan Generation Restoration, the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME) has said. “Under the direct oversight of the head of department Taleb Khaled Al Shahwani, the team recorded the data and released 53 hawksbill sea turtle to the sea under full safety measures. So far, 92 nests were moved to the protected site at Fuwairit beach,” the MME said in a tweet. The project to protect the endangered hawksbill sea turtles is being undertaken by the Environmental Science Center at Qatar University under the supervision of the MME with funding from Qatar Petroleum.
