If you love mangoes, there is a good news for you in store. The Qatari market is not only flooded with Pakistan’s premium fruit these days but you will also find your favourite variety at a bargain price this summer due to tough competition among importers.
This was revealed by Malik Nabil Ismail, manager of Pakistan Sweets, who is one of the leading importers of mangoes in Qatar.
“We have recently received shipments of Sindhri and Anwar Retol varieties. Chaunsa, which is always high in demand, will be available in Qatari market from June 15,” said Nabil, who also imports Falsa and Jamun fruits during summer.
Nabil cautioned his customers to be aware of imitations and clarified that Pakistan Sweets has no branch. Pakistani mangoes will continue to be available in Qatar until September-end.
“The fruit is in such big demand that no mango remains unsold on the second day of arrival during the summer”, said Nabil, the son of Haji Ismail who arrived in Qatar in the early 60’s and established sweets business.
Nabil noted that Pakistani mangoes are appreciated in the international market owing to their attractive colour, fragrance, taste and nutritive value.
The number of mango importers in Qatar is growing and customers will get the fruit on bargain rates due to tough completion. Due to the high airfreight charges, he said, importers prefer to import mangoes by sea. But the mangoes imported by sea are not of good quality due to long days wasted in the journey. This is the reason that Pakistan Sweets prefers to import mangoes by air.
