Lulu Hypermarket, the region’s leading retailer, on Wednesday launched the first-ever Georgian Food Festival in Qatar to offer over 50 best quality food products of Georgian origin across its various outlets in the country.
Hosted by Lulu Hypermarket Group in cooperation with the Embassy of Georgia in Qatar, the objective behind organising the festival is to highlight Georgian food products and introduce them to the local community.
The festival also aligns with Lulu’s search for new sourcing avenues and its clear vision to expand its logistic network around the world to offer the best quality products to the shoppers.
Ambassador of Georgia to Qatar HE Nikoloz Revazishvili inaugurated the festival at Lulu Hypermarket’s Al Messila branch in the presence of Lulu Group Director Mohamed Althaf and dignitaries from the municipal council, ministries and many other Qatari entities.
The week-long festival will display a wide variety of food products of Georgian origin like grocery food, meat and meat products, fruits and vegetables and will be available at all Lulu Hypermarket outlets.
Major brands of Georgian grocery lines on display include Chikori, Georgias Natural, Gurieli, Kind & Noble, Meama, Nena, Bakhmaro & Nabeghlavi, Geo Natura and others. All products made available as part of the festival are offered at great discounts across all Lulu stores.
Speaking on the occasion, the Georgian ambassador said, "I am very honoured and pleased to be here as we are launching the Georgian Food Festival 2021 at Lulu Hypermarkets in Qatar. The festival is very special for the embassy as it provides great support in promoting Georgian products in Qatar.”
Talking to Qatar Tribune on the sidelines of the event, Revazishvili said that the festival will give a much-needed boost to the bilateral trade between Qatar and Georgia.
"A lot of people from Qatar are already aware and like various Georgian products thanks to their frequent visits to Georgia,” the envoy said.
"Georgian lamb meats are already very popular in Qatar. I am sure this festival will make many other Georgian products popular in Qatar,” he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Mohamed Althaf said, "We have launched the first-ever Georgian Food Festival in Qatar and I believe it is also the first one in the MENA region. This would not have been possible without the active involvement of the Georgian ambassador to Qatar.”
He said, "We in Qatar have realised that Georgia has got a lot more to offer to us. The country has got excellent geography and biodiversity and the food products are very good. It takes just two and half hours to reach Georgia from Qatar. There is a lot of potential for the trade to grow between the two countries ”
He said that Lulu wants to further explore all the opportunities available in Georgia with its excellent connectivity to Qatar and all favourable trade agreements that Georgia has with the countries in the GCC and the European Union.
"We are planning to open our packing house in Georgia to bring products in large volume to Qatar and CAS countries,” said Althaf.
Given the high quality of Georgian products, Althaf said, "I am sure the demand for Georgian products will continue to rise in Qatar. This festival gives residents and citizens an opportunity to see the excellent products, safety quality and taste.”
Georgia has the unique attribute of being home to a diverse array of food products. Agriculture plays an important role in Georgia’s economy and continues to be the driving force in gaining worldwide prominence and bringing in revenue.
