The deadline for exchanging the fourth edition Qatari banknotes has been extended until December 31, according to several banks.
Qatar Central Bank had earlier extended the circulation of these banknotes until July 1.
In an SMS to customers, Qatar National Bank (QNB) said, “Please note that the deadline to exchange the 4th edition Qatari notes has been extended until December 31, 2021. You may also deposit them in QNB branches, ATMs, ITMs and bulk deposit machines during this time.”
QNB also put out a tweet in this regard, asking customers to “be sure to exchange your 4th edition Qatari notes before December 31st, 2021.”
Similarly, Doha Bank said, “Kindly note that the acceptance period of old Qatari currency notes has been extended. The fourth issuance notes will be accepted at our branches and cash deposit ATMs until December 31, 2021.”
QIB also tweeted about the extension, saying: ”We will continue to exchange the old Qatari currency notes until 31st December 2021.”
The bank encouraged customers to exchange the old notes using QIB cash deposit machines.”
“In accordance with the directives of Qatar Central Bank, we will continue accepting the old edition of the banknotes in all of our branches and ATMs until the 31st of December 2021,” Ahlibank tweeted.
HSBC Qatar also sent an SMS to customers, saying: “Please note that we will continue accepting the Qatari currency fourth issuance of bank notes across all our branches and ATMs until 31st of December 2021.”
The Qatar Central Bank introduced the fifth edition of riyal currency on December 18, 2020, to eventually replace the fourth edition banknotes. The fifth edition introduced a 200 denomination for the first time in Qatar and gave a makeover to denominations of 1, 5, 10, 50, 100 and 500 along with improved security features.
