The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), the organisation responsible for delivering the infrastructure required for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, and leading professional services consultancy, WSP Middle East, has published a podcast to celebrate 500 days until the World Cup tournament.
Teaming up to discuss sustainability goals on a podcast episode titled ‘500 Days Until Kick-off: Building a sustainable legacy on the road to FIFA World Cup Qatar’, Engineer Bodour Al-Meer, sustainability director of the SC, joined WSP Middle East’s Sustainability Associate Shashi Narayanan to explore the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 Sustainability Strategy, the Global Sustainability Assessment System process, and to illustrate how sustainability initiatives are being brought to reality at the Ras Abu Aboud Stadium in Doha, alongside other stadia sites in Doha, Qatar.
Engineer Al-Meer said: “We want the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 to be remembered as a supercharger for positive change; as a goal scored for everyone. Thanks to the exceptional sustainability work and practices in place, we are confident this mega-event will be not only the biggest football show on Earth, but a tournament that raises the benchmark for future World Cups to come.”
Marco Frioni, lead engineer and director of FIFA Stadium Supervision for WSP Middle East, said: “As Qatar prepares to host the first ever FIFA World Cup in the Middle East, the sustainability ambitions are underpinning a roadmap to a cleaner, greener legacy through the introduction of innovative environmental solutions at the FIFA World Cup stadia and facilities. On behalf of WSP, we’re proud to be part of the delivery of a tournament that is setting new benchmarks for optimising the building energy performance and minimising their impact on the environment.”
WSP’s Anticipate Podcast is an insights series that explores unique perspectives to future trends and existing challenges by engaging experts and thought leaders from across the engineering and construction industry.
