A Qatari, Ali Saeed Al Malki, has established a massive olive farm and cold press factory in Tunisia, another first for Qatar and in line with Qatar’s strategic policy on food security and sustainability, which is a core component of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
The olive tree farm, which will supply the Qatari market and other parts of the region, is located in Tunisia’s El Kef region, which is world-renowned for its superior quality olives, and has a monthly production capacity of over 10,000 litres. The farm produces some of the world’s best olives and olive oil, and the products are so high-quality that major suppliers all over the world, including Greece, Spain, and other parts of Europe, are in high demand for them.
The olive oil, sold under the brand name “Quality Tree,” is entirely produced using cold-press technology, with no heat or chemicals used, and it is available in 500ml and 750ml bottles, as well as three-litre cans.
Al Malki, when asked about his motivation for starting the business, said, “Olive oil is an essential part of the Arabian and Mediterranean diet and culture, and I’ve always been fascinated by stories about olives since I was a child. Aside from that, as a proud citizen of this great country, I saw a need to contribute my quota to government policy and the impressive Qatar National Vision 2030, particularly in the area of food security. I then decided to invest in the farm after learning that Tunisia produces some of the world’s best olives.”
Malki, a professional engineer and sports administrator, added that he studied extensively about production techniques and other critical aspects of the trade before venturing into it, and that this has adequately prepared him for the business’s success.
Malki described his production method as follows: “At temperatures of 81°F (27°C), we crush olives into a paste and then use a mechanical press to separate the oil from the pulp in accordance with European food standards. Our cold-press method preserves the nutritional value of olive oil. We offer and supply the highest grades of olive oil, including extra virgin and virgin olive oil.”
Malki went on to say that the response to his products has been very positive since they were introduced into the local market.
“Since the first consignment of over 20,000 litres of “Quality Tree” olive oil brand entered the market, the response has been overwhelming. Our product’s quality stands out from the competition, and we’ve received positive feedback from customers. All of this encourages us, but more importantly, we are pleased to be a part of the country’s development and progress, as well as a significant contributor to its food sustainability policy,” he said.
In terms of his future plans, Malki said that he intends to open a production factory in the near future to produce locally.
“Our plan is to produce not only for Qatar, but for the entire region. With the establishment of the factory in Qatar, we will not only reduce production costs but also ensure higher quality because oversight will be much better, in addition to providing more job opportunities for the population,” he said.
The products are presently available in several supermarkets, and plans are afoot to have them in other malls soon as well.
