The MES Indian School observed the National Sports Day of India on Sunday to encourage students to participate in physical activities and to ensure physical and mental fitness, especially during the pandemic. The National Sports Day, also known as ‘Rashtirya Khel Diwas’, is celebrated every year on August 29 to mark the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand, an Indian field hockey player regarded as one of the greatest in the history of the sport and widely acclaimed for his extraordinary goal-scoring feats in the international sports arena.
To mark the occasion, MES conducted sports activities such as online sports quiz, push-up, plank and skipping activities for the students. MES Principal Hameeda Kadar said sports and games are imperative for the well-being as well as the holistic growth of students.
"Engaging in sports activity offers several health benefits, especially to those students who are confined to home due to pandemic reasons,” she added. Akbar Ali K.T, head of the Department of Physical Education, coordinated the event for the students.
