PAK Shamaa School and College is planning to open one more Cambridge branch in Qatar soon, according to its Principal Nabila Kaukab.
Currently, the institution is operated from the main campus in Mesaimeer area with 1,850 students in the International Stream. The Cambridge branch, having 253 students, is located in Al-Wukair area. Besides Pakistanis, a large number of other nationals are studying in both the International Stream and the Cambridge branch.
"We are planning to open a new Cambridge branch soon in light of the increased number of admissions and huge demand," said the principal in an interview with Qatar Tribune.
The school which was established in 1958 and is the oldest community school in Qatar will re-open on Sunday, after a long summer break. The principal said that extensive expansion and maintenance works had been carried out at the main campus during the summer vacation."We constructed a third floor on the main campus where senior students of International Stream and English medium classes will be shifted," the principal added.
Besides, there has been a makeover of the entire campus with new student-friendly environment. Colourful and comfortable furniture also have been purchased for all classes of Cambridge branch and for Class VI and above for International Stream students. Old and defective air-conditioners have been removed.
The school management has taken several steps to improve the transport system as well."Three new buses have been purchased and female bus attendants have been appointed in all buses for the safety of students," the principal added.
At present, 24 teachers are in Cambridge branch and the number of teachers working in the International Stream is 215."We also inducted 15 new teachers during the summer vacation," the principal further said.
The school is affiliated to the Islamabad-based Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education. The present school management committee is headed by MA Shahid who took charge in 1989. The school boasts of experienced teaching staff."Monthly meeting is held where progress reports are checked and decisions taken by the committee," she said.
The principal also ruled out any tuition fee hike in near future. She elaborated,"We can very well understand that fee hike puts extra burden on most of the parents who are already facing difficulty in making their both ends meet. Keeping this in mind we have no plans for any fee hike at the moment." Moreover, around 175 needy and deserving students are receiving free education at the school. The students are required to have a good academic background with other pre-requisites to be eligible for this fee waiver.
As far as the teachers are concerned, the principal said,"Increments and promotions are important factors in acknowledging our teachers' hard work. We give increments annually and this year's raise has already been disbursed, before the start of summer break."
