Qatar cueists won gold medal in the snooker competition for teams at the combined Gulf Billiards and Snooker Championship, organized by the Qatar Billiards and Snooker Federation, in Al Messila Resort and which concludes on Tuesday amid the participation of the most prominent champions of six countries alongside Qatar – Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and the UAE.
The Qatari team, comprising Ali Al Obaidli and Ahmed Saif, won the title after defeating its UAE counterpart 3-2 on Sunday evening in the fifth and decisive round of the competition, which was held in a one-round confrontation system, to win the title. The team with the most wins.
The Qatari team started its campaign in the competition on the first day by achieving three consecutive victories, by defeating its Saudi counterpart by 3-1 in the first round, and then defeating the Omani counterpart by a score of 3-0 in the second round, and finally winning He beat his Kuwaiti counterpart with a score of 3-0.
On the second day, the Qatari team managed to outperform its Bahraini counterpart, 3-0, in the fourth round. Finally, in the fifth round, the Qatari team continued its superiority by defeating its UAE counterpart, 3-2, after a strong match by the two teams.
Emirati players Khaled Al Kamali and Mohamed Shehab won in the first two games and made progress (2-0), but the Qatari team was able to return after winning three consecutive games, winning the match in his favour, and winning the gold medal.
In turn, Ahmed Saif, a player for the Qatar snooker team, expressed his great happiness for achieving the team snooker title in the combined Gulf Championship, considering that it caught the end for him, as it is the last competition in which he is participating in the Gulf championship.
The player, Saif, said, in a press statement, that the Gulf Championship competitions have a special taste for all the players of the six participating teams, considering that the Qatar and UAE teams are the strongest in the Gulf at the level of snooker competitions.
He explained that the decisive match between Qatar and the Emirates took place contrary to what was expected, as we lost the first two matches with easy mistakes, although we were close to winning, to be late (0-2), noting that he and his colleague Ali Al Obaidli were able to return strongly after the rest period by winning the doubles match and adjusting the result (1 -2, and then Al Obaidli beat Muhammad Shehab to achieve a draw (2-2), and then I won the decisive match over Khaled Al-Kamali to settle the match with a score of 3-2.
For his part, Ali Al Obaidli confirmed that the determination he showed with his colleague Ahmed Saif played a major role in winning the snooker gold for teams after the strong and exciting match that brought him together with his UAE counterpart in the last round of competitions.
Al Obaidli said, in a similar statement, that the Qatar team played strong matches throughout the group stage and won all of them, pointing out that the result of facing the UAE team in the last round would have determined the champion, given that each team won all its matches before that confrontation.
He added that despite the delay in the result (0-2), we held on to the hope of returning to the meeting and winning, which is what happened after winning in three consecutive games and then winning the title and winning the gold medal.
Al Obaidli expressed his hope to continue to shine in tomorrow’s competitions (Monday), as he will enter the 6 Red Snooker competition, which holds its Gulf title, stressing that he will do his best to preserve the title and achieve a second gold for him and his country in the combined Gulf Billiards and Snooker Championship.
