Tripoli: Around 4,000 people were seized and taken to a migrant detention centre in Tripoli as part of a security campaign launched in the Libyan capital by the Interior Ministry. The ministry on Friday said it launched a campaign to round up "drug dealers, alcohol traffickers and illegal migrants” in Tripoli’s western neighbourhood of Gargaresh. It posted pictures of armoured vehicles and police cars, as security personnel arrested some people. Hours later, the ministry said a migrant detention centre in the nearby Ghout al-Shaal neighbourhood "received 4,000 illegal immigrants of different nationalities,” after the security campaign. Migrants "were provided with medical care,” the ministry said, adding that they will be divided among several migrant centres. (dpa)
