The training camp of the Qatar U-23 football team is in full swing at the Aspire Stadium with players preparing for the upcoming qualifying matches of the AFC U-23 Asian Cup in Uzbekistan.
The training camp, being supervised by coach Nicolas Cordova, started on Sunday and will continue till October 20. Besides training, Qatar will also play two friendly matches against Kuwait U-23 – on October 15 and October 18.
A total of 24 players are participating in the training camp, with Al Sadd’s quartet of Mohamed Waad, Youssef Abdul Razzaq, Salah Zakaria and Hammam Al Amin set to join the team today.
Qatar U-23 player Mohamed Ayyash said the team was preparing well for the qualifying matches.
“We are happy with the preparations as we target full points in the qualifiers,” he said before terming friendlies against Kuwait important.
“It will be our final games before the qualifying matches and will help us in giving final touches of our preparation,” said Ayyash.
Qatar will play in the first group against Syria, Yemen and Sri Lanka.
A total of 42 teams will participate in the qualifiers to secure 15 places up for grabs.
