The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar has achieved a new Guinness World Records title for the ‘Most Nationalities Planting Trees Simultaneously’, adding to the list of world records achieved in Qatar.
Official Adjudicators at Guinness World Records, Alan Pixsley and Louise Toms, stated that 66 nationalities participated during the tree-planting event event organised by the committee on Dukhan Road recently.
The event is part of the ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’ campaign to ‘Plant Million Trees’, launched in 2019 in coordination with the Ministry of Municipality.
Participants from each nationality planted one tree for five continuous minutes, following specific steps that were documented by cameras installed on site in order to evaluate the planting process and its compliance with the guidelines of Guinness World Records.
Engineer Mohammad Arqoub Al Khaldi, chairman of the Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar, said: “Achieving this global title confirms our commitment to contribute to protecting the environment in line with our country’s efforts in the field of development and environmental sustainability, as part of the fourth pillar of the Qatar National Vision 2030.
He added that the committee launched the ‘Qatar Beautification and Our Kids Planting Trees’ campaign to ‘Plant Million Trees’ in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality to contribute in increasing green spaces and trees in the country and provide fresh air for the desert areas along the roads.
This campaign is considered as mainstay to educate individuals and students about the importance of tree-planting and instilling environmental values in them. More than 550,000 trees were planted until now, he said.
The Supervisory Committee of Beautification of Roads and Public Places in Qatar launched the campaign on September 28, 2019 in cooperation with the Ministry of Municipality. The campaign is in line with the efforts of Qatar for development and environmental sustainability within the fourth pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030 that aims at achieving harmony and integration between economic and social development, protection and preservation of the environment for future generations.
The campaign aims to involve kids of Qatar and residents in planting one million trees across the country, primarily to emphasise that protection and preservation of the environment is everyone’s social responsibility.
Since its launch, many governmental and private entities of Qatar have been active in the campaign. Participation of the Ministry of Education and Higher Education is worthwhile as many school students from different levels of education have been involved in planting trees in many places and project sites, educating students about the importance of trees-planting, nurturing environmental values in them and encouraging them to volunteer for preserving the environment of the State of
Qatar.
