In an election keenly followed by the Indonesian expatriate community in Qatar, the Association of Indonesian Community in Qatar (PERMIQA) elected Alvin Alfiyansyah as its chairman for the 2022-2024 period.
Alfiyansyah, the Indonesian expat living in Qatar, has been working at Qatar Gas.
PERMIQA is an umbrella organisation of Indonesian community groups in Qatar. According to the Embassy of Indonesia in Qatar, there are around 73 Indonesian community groups in Qatar. Most of these groups are based on similarity of hobbies, shared alma mater, ethnicity etc.
These groups actively participate in a number of events organised by the Embassy of Indonesia in Qatar as well as the Qatari government. The most recent example is the involvement of the Indonesian community groups in fan zones or cultural events during the Amir Cup and Arab Cup. PERMIQA members also plan to participate in fan zone activities during the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2022.
Indonesian Ambassador to the State of Qatar HE Ridwan Hassan appreciated the role played by PERMIQA in strengthening the relations not only among members of the Indonesian community in Qatar, but also with other expatriate communities in Qatar.
“The relationship between the governments is certainly important. However, the relationship among the people should be the foundation of our diplomacy,” said Ambassador Ridwan.
Alvin Alfiyansyah delivered a speech during his inauguration as the new chairman of PERMIQA.
