Biopic telefilm ‘Aik Hai Nigar’ aired on Pakistan’s ARY Digital channel on October 23 has won the hearts of viewers across the globe.
A new project of Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), ‘Aik Hai Nigar’ is an inspirational biopic that revolves around the true life story of Pakistan’s first female three-star general Lieutenant General Nigar Johar.
Pakistan’s leading actress Mahira Khan, who portrayed the life and career of Nigar, has received plaudits from audience for her brilliant and close-to-the-reality acting. Mahira has successfully paid tribute to the strength, determination and resilience of an accomplished Pakistan Army officer, who has led a life full of trials and tribulations.
Nigar is the only woman in the history of Pakistan Army to have reached the rank of lieutenant general and the third to reach the rank of major general. She belongs to the Pakistan Army Medical Corps and currently serves as the surgeon general of Pakistan Army.
Nigar was born in Panjpir village in the Swabi District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Both her parents along with her two younger sisters died in a car accident in 1989. Her husband, an engineer in the military, died in 2019 of cancer.
The telefilm has been directed by Adnan Sarwar and written by Umera Ahmed. Besides Mahira, it features Bilal Ashraf, Khushhal Khan, Tauqeer Nasir, Sohail Sameer, Sara Nadeem, Eman Shahid etc.
Aik Hai Nigar has been produced by Nina Kashif and Mahira, under the banner of Soul Fry Films.
There are two soothing songs beautifully sung by Haroon Shahid and Lalarukh Abbas and produced by Abbas Ali Khan.
"Honoured to be able to play a woman I admire so much. Pakistan army’s first three-star general. Aik Hai Nigar traces the life and career of Lieutenant General Nigar Johar. What a life. What a story – to know her, is to know one of the greatest we have amongst us,” Mahira wrote in her message on Instagram.
Nigar is undoubtedly a symbol of women’s empowerment in Pakistan and Aik Hai Nigar is a beautiful and courageous attempt to honour the heroes.
