Ministers and officials reaffirmed that the new orbital highway, Al-Majd Road, which was inaugurated by the Prime Minister and Minister of Interior HE Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa al Thani on Thursday, is one of the most important strategic projects in the infrastructure sector and will cause a qualitative leap in the road transport sector.
The project is located to the North, West, and South of Doha City, and includes a total of around 195 km of roads, starting from Mesaieed areas in the South to connect with the Ras Laffan road of Al Khor city, at Lusail to provide free flow of traffic through 18 interchanges to link all main roads in the country.
Al-Majd Road links all major roads in the country, connecting the roads of Al-Wakir, G-Ring, Salwa, Al-Sailiya and Dukhan. The road then gets divided into two road interchanging by Dukhan road, one route heads towards Al Khor highways through Al Rifaa road and Al Shamal road. The other route heads towards Ras Laffan through Al Shamal.
Minister of Transport and Communications HE Jassim bin Saif al Sulaiti said Al-Majd road will create a leap in the road transport sector and a boom in the internal and external trade, as it promote free transport of products, materials and individuals to all vital areas in the country.
His Excellency said the road links directly to Hamad Port in the south and eases access to Ras Laffan and Ruwais ports in the north, in addition it allows easy access to Hamad International Airport.
Sulaiti said Al-Majd Road serves many economic facilities such as the industrial area, Manateq, the Economic Zones Company and Mesaieed Industrial City. In addition to road is linked to Lusail city from one side and eases access to sites in West Bay.
His Excellency said the road will cut about 50 percent of the journey time for road users, and will reduce traffic pressure on other roads and the streets of Doha as well as reduce noise and environmental pollution there.
Minister of Finance HE Ali Shareef al Emadi said the wise leadership allocated enough budget to implement this major project. His Excellency said the government is committed to provided all the finances necessary to develop and build different infrastructure, lead by a road network that serves the World Cup stadiums.
Minister of Municipality and Environment HE Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki al Subaie said naming the road Al-Majd is of significance, as the name comes after (Tamim Al Majd), a symbol of steadfastness and pride in the face of the unjust blockade on Qatar.
His Excellency said the road serves many municipalities to ease traffic flow to nearly 30 residential areas as it extends from the south to the north and east of Qatar through the west and center of the country to intersect with all the major roads in the country, such as G-Ring, Salwa, Al Dukhan, Al Shamal, until Al Khor highway.
