QATAR University has been ranked 393 in the QS World University Rankings. The announcement was made in the presence of the Vice Chairman of Qatar University's Board of Regents HE Sheikh Abdulla bin Ali al Thani on Tuesday.
Commenting on the announcement, QU President Dr Hassan al Derham said:"We are so happy to achieve this important success which reflects QU's noticeable improvement that resulted from years of hard work and commitment."
"Ranking is not a figure. Rather, it is an indication of QU's improvement and advancement in academic excellence, research endeavours, international reputation, and local and international solid partnerships. The ranking also highlights the reputation that QU has built in the local labour market and society," he added.
Dr Derham concluded his speech by saying:"QU has achieved many successes in Arabic and International rankings which reflect continuous efforts for more than a decade. I would like to express my appreciation and gratitude to all who took part in this achievement that adds a value to QU and Qatar. This is only the beginning and we are keen to record further successes in rankings as we develop a knowledge-based economy."
Speaking on the occasion, QS Regional Director Ashwin Fernandes said:"It is a pleasure to be here in Qatar to announce that Qatar University is among the top 400 universities, according to the QS World University Rankings 2016/2017. This means that QU can really compete with many international universities. In the 13th edition of the QS World University Rankings, we have ranked 916 universities, after considering over 3,800 of them."
Fernandes added:"QU's achievement reflects the great work and effort put by its administration. From last year to now, QU has jumped 88 places, which makes it one of the fastest rising universities in the region."
QU's academic, research and institutional accomplishments have positioned the university as an effective partner in the Qatari society and one of the leading universities in the region. QU is also ranked among the top 10 globally for international faculty and 21 globally for international students which are considered as great achievements for the University this year.
