Ambassador of Dominican Republic to Qatar HE Georges Bahsa Hazim recently feted Qatar-based top Dominican surgeon Prof. Dr. Ruben Peralta for his exemplary work and altruistic services that he has rendered for the Dominican diaspora, the Dominican Republic, and the people of Qatar.
Those present at the event, which was held AlWadi Hotel Doha-MGallery, included Sigmund Freund, executive director for Public Private Partnership of Dominican Republic, members of the Dominican community, and guests.
Prof. Dr. Ruben Peralta, a consultant and MD, FACS, FCCM and FCCP, is serving as deputy trauma medical director and senior consultant at the Hamad General Hospital.
Dr. Peralta has authored or co-authored more than 300 publications, abstracts and book chapters addressing a broad range of topics on surgery.
As an academic surgeon, Dr. Peralta has been awarded more than $2 million in competitive research grants in Qatar alone.
As an educator, he has led the Trauma, Emergency and Critical Fellowship Program, an advanced medical education and training program of more than 52 physicians in trauma surgery, emergency and critical care medicine in the Middle East region.
He was inducted into the inaugural class of the prestigious Academy of Master Surgeon Educators of the American College of Surgeons, for his outstanding contributions and internationally recognised leadership in the innovation and advancement of the Surgical Science and Education.
He is also recipient of the Harald Tscherne Teaching Award 2021, awarded by the European Society of Trauma and Emergency Surgery (ESTES), University of Zurich, Switzerland.
He is a professor of surgery, anesthesia, critical care medicine, emergency medicine and global health.
He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American College of Critical Care Medicine and the American College of Chest Physicians.
He is member of several prestigious medical and surgical scientific societies.
Dr. Ruben Peralta thanked the Dominican ambassador for recommending his name for the first-ever award given to a Dominican national serving thousands of miles away from his country.
On being feted, Dr. Peralta said it was a great honour for him to receive such an award.
