AN exciting new exhibition, 'Treasures of China', was unveiled at the Museum of Islamic Art (MIA) in Doha on Tuesday. The exhibition will run till January 7, 2017.
Presented under the patronage of Qatar Museums' Chairperson HE Sheikha al Mayassa bint Hamad bin Khalifa al Thani, the exhibition gives visitors a chance to see treasures from China's rich civilisation and meet the terracotta soldiers who guarded a hidden underground empire.
The terracotta warriors from the First Emperor's Terracotta Army transport visitors to China's glorious history spanning 5,000 years.
Divided into three parts: 'The Birth of Civilisation, Ceremonies and Kingdoms', 'Splendid Unification, Prosperity and the Silk Road' and 'Porcelain, Imperial China and the Royal Arts,' the exhibition involves all major historical periods of ancient China and displays 116 pieces dating from the Neolithic period to the Qing Dynasty.
Vivid pottery and exquisite ornaments selected from five museums and heritage institutions from across China are on show giving a glimpse of Chinese creativity and craftsmanship. Aimed at reflecting the integration between the cultures of the East and the West, the exhibition offers visitors an opportunity to appreciate, embrace and discover the profundity and richness of Chinese culture and traditions from a number of perspectives.
Mansoor bin Ebrahim al Mahmoud, Acting CEO of Qatar Museums and advisor to the Chairperson, said:"It is with great pride that we open this exciting exhibition to the public and we thank our counterparts in China for their support in bringing such an incredible display to Qatar for the first time."
