A section dedicated to displaying authentic Qatari delicacies stole the show at the ongoing 11th edition of the Qatar International Food Festival (QIFF) at Al Bidda Park.
Presented in a typical Qatari setting, the section attracted a large number of visitors who wanted to have a glimpse of traditional experience.
The food section featured an array of appetisers, main course and desserts.
Sumptuous Qatari foods are being offered such as majbous, madhruba, luqaimat, ghuzi, harees, and balaleet among others.
Saluwa Al Kuwari, a vendor who has been participating since the beginning of QIFF, said the business has been good in other editions and she hopes this one would be no different.
“I love showcasing traditional Qatari food to people from various cultures. My food is home-made with typical Qatari ingredients,” she said.
Meshal Al Abdulla, whose business name is Lat. Coffee, said she has been participating in QIFF since 2015.
“I love cooking. I want to showcase my culture through food,” she said.
Farha, another vendor whose business name is Buon Ciboo, said this is the first time she is participating in the festival and this platform would give her business a chance to grow.
“I hope to have a big business in the future,” she said.
Commenting about the Qatari food, CEO and Founder of The Cooking Academy Mohamed Al Hammadi said the Qatari corner was a great opportunity to showcase the Qatari food as well as give a platform for Qatari culture to be promoted.
“Events like this allow the local taste makers to showcase their food and to exchange with others so that they can know what Qatari food is such as majbous and others,” he said.
He added that these are the kinds of grandmothers’ recipes that one will not find just in any restaurant.
“Most of these foods here are homemade. This kind of touch keeps the food authentic,” he said.
QIFF is spread across five themed zones at Al Bidda Park and one at Corniche. The zones include Oasis, Pier, Urban, Market and Garden.
While the festival will continue until December 17, the displays at the Corniche will conclude on December 3. The festival is open from 3pm until 11pm on weekdays and 3pm until 1am on weekends.
